Marketing & Consulting Services for therapy practices
Often times we see private therapists struggle to launch and maintain a successful practice for themselves. A recent study published by counseling & psychotherapy research journal in March 2023, reported the uptick of mental health clinicians who went into private practice during COVID. After interviewing multiple clinicians who were part of the study, “the participants expressed that private practice did present challenges, including a lack of health insurance, retirement benefits, financial instability, isolation, and a steep learning curve regarding business operation.”
One primary contributing factor to the struggle lies in the fact that many clinicians lack training and experience. Anyone who has attended a Masters program for clinical direct practice (i.e. LPC, LMSW, LMFT), knows there just is not sufficient implementation of these principles. The focus is strictly on behavioral health, psychology, diagnosis, medication, and therapeutic modalities. Teaching or training in the area of building a private practice is virtually absent. Most clinical Masters programs neglect to teach students these foundational principles such as: how to design a marketing strategy, how to build a referral base, how to create a financial structure to name a few. These and other principles are essential for a clinician at any stage in their career who is deciding to “go out on their own”.
